Cha Cha Changes…

Change is the new norm.

Our lives seem to be moving at ever increasing speeds and often we feel like we are in a whirlwind of instability.  Think about what this past year was like for you.  I bet it included some change.

In fact, change is the only constant.  Everything is constantly changing and moving. Change is life.  Without it there would be no life.  Energy moves, it develops; it metamorphoses, and is reborn again.  If the movement is stopped, dis-ease follows.dreamstimemedium_8225274

Not all change is “bad”; some is “good”, like a new job, having a baby, getting married.  These can still cause internal disruption.

All change requires letting go of what was and making room to allow for what is to come.

So why does the human psyche stand in fear of it, resist it, try and deny it? We can be hit unexpectedly with a major life change and we freeze, filled with overwhelm.

Our brains are wired to be habitual.  Change (especially big change that causes us to redefine ourselves) can be very uncomfortable, a kind of mini death and resurrection, or re-birth.  Our Egos are very attached to our old stories of ourselves, and it sounds the “freak out” alarm when events ask us to redefine ourselves.

It is during these transformations that we grow and evolve into the person we want to next become, if we allow it.  It is at these in between times we are gifted a chance at reaching for the life we dream of.  We meet ourselves, yet when we are in the cocoon, we forget that something beautiful will emerge on the other end.

If we can remember we are not our stories, and we are so much more, we can actually be excited by the process, participate with awareness and clarity, and be more at peace with ourselves allowing the new into our lives.  Practicing gratitude, faith, acceptance, and learning how to change our perspective when we are stuck in a rut help us to move our lives along with grace.

“The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.” ~Alan Watts

Resistance is futile, and gosh darn exhausting.
